Since its release, ETS2 has captivated us with its open roads, cities, and the simple joy of building a trucking empire. The vanilla experience is already a masterpiece, offering countless hours of entertainment and exploration. But for those who crave more: more challenge, more realism, more immersion, mods are the key to unlocking a world beyond the base game.
Why Using Mods?
ETS2’s vanilla experience is undeniably rich, but after a few hundred kilometers, some players start to notice the cracks: an economy that’s too forgiving, maps that, while vast, are confined to SCS’s official releases, AI traffic that feels more like a ghost town than a bustling highway, and weather that rarely surprises. That’s where mods step in.

But we’re not just handing you a shopping list. Between this guide’s selected mods and the GMC Community Map Combo, you will have more than 250 mods installed at the end of the process, so is important to follow Load Order (LO) instructions and read carefully each section, but also mod’s author original page and comments section.
Our goal is to help you to have an broader understanding on how modding ETS2 works, so you can keep tailoring your game and use the guide as a blueprint, mainly. But you can, of course, use the guide as it is, since is already an immersive and complete experience on its own.
Perpetually in beta state... the horror!
The Route of the Wolves is a permanently evolving collection of mods, so is never in its final release state, always adding or deleting mods after meaningful feedback, improving, expanding and perfecting, although never reaching said perfection, because modding is by definition, a lost game: the ultimate mod list will never exist, as long as new mods appear, regular mods get changes from their authors, old mods get outdated and new official updates from SCS see the light.
On top of that, modding IS a personal experience, is about game play preferences, what kind of immersion the players is looking after. Some prefer variety in the AI Traffic they see on the roads, some the maps expansions, new areas, new landscapes. Other lean on the economic challenges, while other prefer even more forgiven game play economy.
The list of possibilities goes on. Just like there is not “the right way to play a game”, there is no “the right mods to make the ultimate collection”.
We will try to make changes on a regular basis, based on how much of a positive addition to the collection those changes provide.
But modding is a collaborative art, and your feedback, whether it’s a bug report, a compatibility note, or a rave review, helps this guide evolve. Think of it as a living document, always in “beta,” always improving, always shaped by the voices of players like you.

Which types of mods are included in The Route of the Wolves
The goal is to build a collection of mods that blend seamlessly with the game, enrich it without distracting you:
Mods that replace the companies with real ones, for buildings, gas stations, trucks, trailers and advertisement.
Mods for AI Traffic that add variety and also surprises along the road. AI traffic behavior that mirrors real life, time of the day, type of vehicles and how they react to the player.
Mods that reshape and improve the weather system. Seasons are an option and better landscape overall, with realistic and stunning lightning and rain.
Navigation mods that make it easier to look the map and the windows, voices that give us clear instructions in our preferred language.
Maps expansions and extensions, that gives us new zones to explore.
Economy mods that provides better challenges, turning every minor achievement into a big celebration.
Personalizing how our truck looks and feels in the interior and exterior.
Improved physics, roads and points of interactions, so we need to put attention to where to deliver and where to pick, but also the road never feels dull, also no more floating symbols to tells us where to park, instead manholes show us the way, turning the view more realistic.

Technically, no mod is essential or mandatory. Is a matter of game play preferences, goals and play style.
But in order to achieve our guide vision, is important you install the full list, including the GMC Community Map Combo. One you play it and enjoy it and you feel more comfortable, you can start trying other mods on top to personalize your experience and immersion.
